The structure of the civil court system is stipulated in the Nigerian Constituition, 1999 (as amended). The courts of record, in order of hierarchy, are the Supreme Court (the highest appellate court), the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court, the National Industrial Court, the state High Court and the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
