The Nigerian Maritime Industry: Growth and Opportunities

Governance issues remain a huge challenge within the Nigerian Ports sector, with concerns on the part of insurers and shippers about delays in getting their goods moved through the ports or along the coast leading to the perception of greater risk.

This seminar is aimed at showcasing the opportunities and challenges in the Nigerian maritime sector and will highlight the developments and new regulations put in place to address the problems militating against the industry’s efficiency.

Presenting at this session are:

  • Mr Supo Shasore SAN (Partner Ajumogobia & Okeke and former Attorney General, Lagos State). His session will cover the business environment. He will provide an outline the legal framework, highlight new rules, emphasize the availability of arbitration and challenge negative perceptions around doing business within the industry.

  • Mallam Habib Abdullahi, MD Nigeria Ports Authority. He will give an overview of the operational and administrative environment in the various ports in the country (security, services, logistics, finance etc) and highlight the pipeline of investment opportunities in new ports.

  • Mr. Haruna Baba Jauro, Acting DG Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA)
    He will speak on ensuring maritime safety in the gulf of guinea. His session will focus on NIMASA’s approach and the challenges they encounter. His session will also cover the need for Maritime Safety in the country and the opportunities available for investors.

  • Mr Gbenga Kuye, MD Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA)
    Mr Kuye will speak on the investment opportunities for maritime sector in Nigeria’s export processing zones. Nigeria has 34 free zones which were set up to increase foreign direct investment and enhance economic growth and development.

There will also be an opportunity to meet and interact with terminal operators and concessionaires in the Nigerian maritime sector.
